James (Kipp Marcus) is a daffy dude who just wants to be liked. One afternoon, while shoveling snowy sidewalks, he meets Sara (Alice Dylan) who brings him cocoa and shows him she can balance a cup on her flat head. They sled, they make dreams, they decide on their careers. He`s silly and sincere; she`s fiery and aloof. They decide they`re just friends, but they can`t seem to meet anyone else they like as much as each other. He goes to her school dance, they kiss, they decide they won`t see each other for a while because now their relationship is too complicated. She moves to England, he moves to the Big Apple. He thinks he`ll never see her again; she moves to New York. They reunite, but she`s engaged to get married. James`s best friend, Mitch (Henry Simmons) is a successful stockbroker who tries to bring James down to earth throughout, but James is just too much of a romantic for that. Bernadette Peters plays James`s wacky mother who only dates foreigners who don`t speak English.
