Myron Breckenridge (Rex Reed) is a frustrated homosexual male who will not take the advice of his doctor (Jim Backus) as he decides to undergo a sex-change operation. Now, Myron is Myra Breckenridge (Raquel Welch), a stunningly beautiful woman with a rocket of a body. A disgusting, abusive older man, Buck Loner (John Huston) teaching a history of cinema class is taken with Myra, who moves in only to sodomize a southern man (Roger Herren) and steal the man`s girlfriend (Farah Fawcett). Myra continues to wreak havoc on the south in this outrageous cult classic. Many movies have been made from novels thought unfilmable. Gore Vidal`s book was the satiric source material for this film that proves that such novels do exist. Originally Rated X in 1970, the film is not as bold as it once was considered, but it has retained a truly bizarre quality. Among the most memorable moments is the appearance of Mae West, top-billed and still bawdy as ever in her seventies, singing a comedically sultry number.
