A romantic comedy with a uniquely surreal flavor, THE PRICE OF MILK comes from New Zealand-based director Harry Sinclair (TOPLESS WOMEN TALK ABOUT THEIR LIVES). The film tells the story of a young couple, Lucinda (Danielle Cormack) and Rob (Karl Urban), a pair of rural lovebirds who decide to take the plunge and get married. Mysteriously, one night, their favorite sleeping quilt disappears, which Lucinda later discovers has ended up in the hands of the mysterious Auntie (Rangi Motu). Desperate to get the quilt back, and listening to the advice of her best friend Drosophila (Willa O`Neill), Lucinda agrees to trade Rob`s herd of 117 cows to Auntie, which will most certainly add a new aggressive dimension to their relationship. When Rob`s understandable anger results in him leaving Lucinda, it appears that the wedding is off. That`s when Drosophila`s true colors begin to show, sparking a series of startling actions that lead to an unpredictably sweet ending. Sinclair, working from a loose outline of a story, blends startling colors with sweeping classical music to bring his quirky fable to life. Cormack, Urban, and O`Neill all deliver engaging performances, adding even greater flair to the proceedings.
