Andrei Tarkovsky became a major international figure in cinema when his breakthrough feature, MY NAME IS IVAN, was released in 1962. This short film was completed two years prior to the film that would begin Tarkovsky`s major influence upon world cinema. This endearing short centers around the relationship between two distinctly different individuals, a young violinist and a gruff steamroller operator. Desptie differences in age and representation of the male persona, the two forge a strong connection. This early Tarkovsky work showcases much of the experimental technique that would define his emotionally powerful later works and utilizes inventive uses of sound and split screen to tell this moving story. Co-scripted by Andrei Konchalovsky (SHY PEOPLE, TANGO& CASH).
