(Kirsten Dunst) becomes even stronger as he fights the impulse to reveal his secret life and declare his love. Even Peter's beloved Aunt May (Rosemary Harris), who has fallen on hard times after the death of Uncle Ben, begins to have doubts about her nephew. Peter's life is about to become even more complicated as he encounters a formidable new foe -- Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina). Peter must use all the powers at his disposal to try to stop this diabolical madman in his octagonal tracks.

The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring
With THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, director Peter Jackson has achieved a meticulous and captivating adaptation of the first book of J.R.R. Tolkien`s classic fantasy trilogy. The setting is Middle-earth, a mythological land populated by elves, dwarves, humans, and the gentle, diminutive hobbits upon whom the story centers. One hobbit, Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), unexpectedly comes into possession of an ancient magical ring so powerful it invariably corrupts anyone who wears it. In order to prevent the ring`s erstwhile owner, the dark lord Sauron, from reclaiming the ring and taking over Middle-earth, a motley band of comrades set out to destroy it in the fires of Mount Doom, where it was forged. Included in the group are Frodo and hobbits Sam (Sean Astin), Merry (Dominic Monoghan), and Pippin (Billy Boyd); the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen); human warriors Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Boromir (Sean Bean); the dwarf Gimli (John Rhys-Davies); the elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom). Along the way, they wage battle with monsters, demons, and Sauron`s evil minions, all brought to life by spectacular digital technology.
Jackson`s grandiose production represents the first of three films that he wrote and directed, derived from Tolkien`s beloved novels. Fourteen months in the making, at a cost of $270 million, all three installments were filmed at once in New Zealand where diverse landscapes lend themselves particularly well to the mystical realm of Middle-earth. The next two films, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS and THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING, will be released in December 2002 and December 2003 respectively.

Rooftops
Director Robert Wise recalls his musical masterpiece WEST SIDE STORY with ROOFTOPS, a drama that utilizes contemporary music and dancelike fight sequences to tell the story of homeless youths on Mahattan's Lower East Side. T (Jason Gedrick) is one of these misunderstood loners, having broken away from the drug-ridden lifestyle of the rough city streets to make a life for himself on a rooftop of a tenement building. He is soon joined by Squeak (Alexis Cruz), a graffiti artist who has been kicked out of his home. The two earn money by stealing copper piping from other buildings or stripping cars for parts. But their makeshift home is soon threatened by Lobo (Eddie Velez), a crack dealer whose cousin Elena (Troy Beyer) T falls in love with. T meets her at a dance mixer held in a vacant lot, where T competes as a capoeira dancer, performing a ritualistic Brazilian karatelike form of combat dancing. When Lobo takes T's building over and refuses to back down, a war erupts between the gangs. With punchy capoeira sequences and a plot woven with high stakes, ROOFTOPS is a unique and memorable film.
